Czy się mylę, gdy powiem, że rząd pocztowy to najmniej chętnie odwiedzana instytucja? Jest tu ktoś, kto by się przyznał, że lubi i powiedział dlaczego? Ostatnio bywam na pocztach i wszędzie poza Maltą mają prawo kojarzyć się z kolejkami i odpustowym asortymentem. Tak było w Polsce, Serbii czy Chorwacji.
Malta jest chlubnym wyjątkiem i nie wiem na czym to polega. Może to filatelistyka, która w tak małych krajach odgrywa większą niż zazwyczaj rolę? Bolla czyli „znaczek”, tak w ogóle. Kraj ten ma Muzeum Poczty godne polecenia każdemu – nigdzie się nie dowiedziałem tyle o miejscowej historii co tam. Przez soczewkę doświadczeń tego specyficznego urzędu skupiono esencję wydarzeń ważnych dla Malty. Podobnego podejścia zabrakło mi zresztą w konkatedrze św. Jana, gdzie zamęczono mnie suchymi faktami, kto kiedy komu co zlecił lub wykonał. To kompletnie zabiło efekt, jaki ten kościół robi na człowieku nie tylko przecież z powodu karawadżia.
Am I wrong to say that the post office is the least favorite institution to visit? Is there someone here who would admit that s/he likes it and tell us why? I have been at quite some post offices lately and everywhere except Malta can they be associated with queues and indulgenced assortment. This was certainly the case in Poland, Serbia or Croatia.
Malta is a glorious exception and I am not sure how to explain that phenomenon. Maybe it is its philately, which plays a bigger role in such small countries than usual? Bolla is for „stamp”, by the way. This country has a Postal Museum worth recommending to everyone – nowhere have I learned as much about local history as I have there. It seems that all events truly important for Malta are distilled and put on display in that very building. A similar approach was missing in the St. John’s Co-Cathedral, where I was tormented by dry facts, who ordered or performed what to whom and when. This completely killed the effect that this church does on people – and that not only because of Caravaggio.
